  17. <p>     Adolf Hitler had died more deaths in one week than any man
  18. in history.
  19. </p>
  20. <p>     Said the Hamburg radio: Hitler died "at his command post in
  21. the Reich Chancellery, fighting the Russians to the last."
  22. </p>
  23. <p>     Said Swedish Count Folke Bernadotte, who had it from
  24. Heinrich Himmler on April 24: Hitler had a cerebral hemorrhage,
  25. might already be dead.
  26. </p>
  27. <p>     Said Dr. Hans Fritzsche, captured Goebbels deputy: Hitler
  28. had committed suicide.
  29. </p>
  30. <p>     Said the Tokyo radio: Hitler was killed by an exploding
  31. shell as he walked down the steps of his Berlin Chancellery.
  32. </p>
  33. <p>     Said the Paris-Presse: After a quarrel with Hitler over the
  34. continuation of the war, other Nazi leaders blew him to bits by a
  35. bomb placed in his underground fortress in the Tiergarten on
  36. April 21.

  38. <p>     Said the London Daily Express: Hitler is on his way to Japan
  39. in a U-boat.
  40. </p>
  41. <p>     Said United Press war correspondent Edward W. Beattie Jr.,
  42. liberated last week after eight months in Nazi captivity: Germans
  43. believe that Hitler was killed in last year's bomb plot.
  44. </p>
  45. <p>     Soviet soldiers dug deep into the rubble of the Reich
  46. Chancellery for Hitler's corpse. They did not find it. Dr.
  47. Fritzsche explained to them: "The body has been hidden in a place
  48. impossible to find."
  49. </p>
  50. <p>     But Russia was determined to find Hitler, dead or alive.
  51. Said Pravda: "Whether he escaped to hell, to the devil's paws, or
  52. to the arms of fascist protectors, still he is no more. We shall
  53. find out what really happened to him. And if he escaped, we shall
  54. find him, no matter where he is."
